Pensions are designed to at least partly offset the loss of income for contribution purposes that occurs when a person becomes entitled to a pension.
The pension benefits must thus represent a realistic proportion of the income of the insured person at the time at which they became entitled to receive the pension so that the insured person and their dependents can maintain their usual standard of living.
The regulations in effect until 31 December 2004 will continue to apply to persons born prior to 1 January 1955.
However, these persons also have the right to claim a:
- Corridor pension or
- Schwerarbeitspension (from 1 January 2007)
