Attendance allowance

Attendance allowance is granted to care-dependent individuals so that that they can afford the care and assistance they require and to help them live in accordance with their own aspirations and requirements.

You are entitled to attendance allowance if:

  • You have a physical, mental or psychological disability or sensory deficit and, as a result, require permanent care and assistance for at least 60 hours per month,
  • This disability or deficit persists for at least 6 months and
  • You are normally resident in Austria.
The attendance allowance benefit will be determined by the extent to which you are dependent on care. There are seven defined dependency levels.

The date of on which an application for an attendance allowance is submitted determines when the allowance is paid. The allowance/any increase in the allowance will be due on the first of the month following the date of submission. Attendance allowance is paid in arrears for each month (12 payments in each year).
